Water Management on "Are Together" (The Alternative des Lilas)

Water Management on "Is Set"
Private or public ownership?
to us to impose the right choice!

The type of management for the public service of water, "Is Package" is the first big case of the new urban community. Until then each municipality was adherent to SEDIF (Union waters of Ile de France). With the creation of "Is Set", the nine cities were transferred to the jurisdiction
intercommunal "water". Elected officials must take a position before the end of the year on the management mode. Two orientations are possible, continued private management with the nebula SEDIF / Veolia and a gradual return to public ownership.

This choice is highly political because it is a societal choice for nearly 400 000 citizens.

What SEDIF?

SEDIF manages the public service of drinking water for the of 133 communes in the Paris region.

historically managed by the Right, the President is 25 years since Andre Santini. SEDIF delegates the use of water for 85 years, Veolia through the larger (juicy?) Contract European water management.

Why out of SEDIF?

We believe that the profit target private companies such as Veolia is inconsistent with the reasonable use of common property and does not ensure fair pricing for the population. Water is a vital resource which is due out any logic of profit.

The difference in pricing between Paris and its suburbs is one illustration of this logic of profit:
- Paris, Public Governance € 2.96 / m3
- SEDIF, delegation to a private company: 4.17 € / m3

A study of the UFC Que Choisir, SEDIF his water bill "2.5 times more expensive than what it costs," with "a net margin of 59%"!

Another management solution exists

In France, local authorities have two options for water management, delegated management to a private company (eg SEDIF) or the direct management authority (Ex.Paris, Grenoble, ...). Contrary to popular belief, most communities still under state control. The choice of our elected officials is therefore crucial and will mirror the model of society they defend. Would there be a society where
public goods are privately managed or should a central place to public services?

A majority left to private management?

At our local action against the postal privatization, many organizations and political parties have spoken for the Protection of local public services. How not to hold the same positions on a subject that our elected officials have full mastery?

Despite our numerous inquiries from numerous elected officials including Mr Lagrange left Lilac positioning themselves for a delegation to SEDIF / Veolia (sic).
A return to public ownership is possible and the dynamics of Paris on this subject is to be taken as an example. For reasons unclear what would it otherwise lacking
"Are Together"?

We call on all people to actively participate in public meetings
on Water and take note of the decisions that elected officials take on this.
